How to report an unmanaged vehicle

Report unmanaged vehicles on public roads, footpaths and in parks online.

You can report vehicles including:

  • cars
  • trucks
  • trailers
  • caravans
  • motorbikes.

Check the unmanaged vehicle criteria

Council can only investigate vehicles that meet the unmanaged vehicle criteria.

We consider a vehicle abandoned if it’s:

  • left for more than 24 hours in a parking bay with a time limit or a place it’s prohibited to stop (e.g. a footpath)
  • parked for more than 7 days in a parking bay without a time limit
  • unregistered.

We consider a vehicle to be unregistered if it does not hold a current registration in Queensland or any other state or territory.

An unsightly or dilapidated vehicles must be assessed by an authorised person. These do not generally include vehicles that have minor damage, reasonable wear and tear, slightly dirty, etc.

Before you report

Gather information that will help us investigate your report.

  1. Check the vehicle’s registration status. To do this, you can carry out a free registration search with the Queensland Government.
  2. Take photos of the vehicle to upload with your report. Try to capture the registration plates and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) if visible from the outside. You may find the VIN on the wheel frame, front of the vehicle frame or lower left-hand side of the dashboard.
  3. Document information about the vehicle, such as its make and model. You can also include how long the vehicle has been left at the location (if known).

What you need to do

  1. Provide the vehicle’s registration status and identification.
  2. Upload photos of the vehicle (optional).
  3. Identify the vehicle type, colour and other relevant details, including when the vehicle was left and who owns it (if known).
  4. Describe the vehicle’s location and where it’s parked.
  5. Choose the reason you believe the vehicle is unmanaged:
    1. it has been parked in a no standing zone or any prohibited space for more than 24 hours
    2. it has been parked in a metered/time restricted parking space for more than 24 hours
    3. it has been parked in a line marked parking bay without moving for 7 days and is suspected to be abandoned.
