About waste vouchers

Council provides 10 free vouchers to households every financial year to help with waste disposal.

You can use them to dispose of general or green waste at our resource recovery centres.

The vouchers cover some or all of the fees and charges you pay to dispose of waste at the centres. Each one is valid for up to 100 kg of waste.

If you have more than 100 kg of waste, you can use more vouchers, up to a maximum of 10 per transaction.

Things to know

How do I get Brisbane waste vouchers?

  • If you’re a homeowner, you’ll receive your waste vouchers in the mail with your rates notice at the start of the financial year. If you get your rates notice via email, we’ll mail the vouchers to you separately.

  • When a property changes ownership, we’ll send waste vouchers to the new owner-occupier after we receive the property ownership details from the Queensland Government.

  • Caravan parks and retirement villages are not eligible for waste vouchers.

  • If you’re a tenant, waste vouchers are issued to your household address in July of each financial year.

  • The property owner can request waste vouchers for a new tenant at a customer centre or a ward office once the previous tenant leaves the property.

  • Tenants of the Department of Housing and Public Works can contact their landlord directly to request waste vouchers.

  • Department of Defence (Defence Housing Australia) tenants will receive vouchers directly.

If you are a real estate agent, you can request waste vouchers when a tenant leaves a managed property if the owner lives outside the Brisbane City Council area.

Transferring waste vouchers

Vouchers are transferable to other residents or local business.

If you’re transferring vouchers to a business removing your waste, ask them to estimate its weight. This will help you provide the correct number of vouchers to cover the cost.

Contact Council about your eligibility in other circumstances.
