Search for a lost pet

We know it can be stressful when your animal goes missing. If you find yourself in this situation, try to stay calm and act quickly.

To help find your missing pet or livestock, you can check:

  • Council’s animal rehoming centres' lost and found pets register
  • RSPCA Queensland’s found pets register
  • local vets in the area where your animal went missing
  • your local social media community groups or pages
  • other local councils’ animal rehoming centres.

Animal rehoming centres

When we find a lost pet or livestock, we take it to our animal rehoming centres in Willawong and Bracken Ridge.

We impound lost and surrendered animals at these centres to provide them with care and a safe environment. Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) runs these animal rehoming centres for Council.

If your pet or livestock is at one of our animal rehoming centres, you may be able to reclaim it.

If you find a pet

If you find a lost dog, cat or livestock that doesn’t belong to you, report it to us as soon as possible.

Make sure you have the following information ready:

  • your name and contact details
  • the registration tag number (if applicable and available)
  • a description of the animal
  • where and when you found the animal.

To report a found pet or livestock, phone Council 07 3403 8888.
